Bamford Quaker Community is 30 this year!
Bamford Quaker community started in a former Water Board building in July 1988 though there had been many meetings and some searching for suitable premises before then. The original community committed itself to Quaker worship and the Quaker testimonies and was a place where people could live for as long as they wished.
In 2011 the community moved into a new phase building on the earlier foundations of Quaker worship and testimonies but now also providing retreats and hospitality to individuals and groups along with a commitment to sustainability and the land.
To mark this anniversary we’re planning a lunch and a walk on Saturday 13th October from midday onwards, and all are welcome to join us as well as past members and those involved over the years. . If you would like to come, please let us know as well as any dietary needs to help us with catering.
We look forward to seeing you then! If you are unable to make it and would like to learn more, you could read Rachel Rowland’s book on the first community – An Adventure Shared published by Diggers and Dreamers. You could also help toward items needed for our Pearl anniversary appeal – see below. Or you would be welcome to visit or stay another time!

To mark our pearl anniversary we are making an appeal based on the Quaker testimonies of simplicity and sustainability for people to donate unused or little used items which can be put to fuller use in our work of hospitality here.
The appeal leaflet spells out other ways too to help us to improve our accommodation and to support us as we carry on living, working and worshipping in community.
